Premise The Ken publishes one original story from India every weekday for its subscribers from technology, startups, business, science & healthcare.

• It is widely used premium paid product, quoted by several HNIs, Politicians, and CXO's across the country and SE Asia
• The Ken Articles are information rich, and also quite long (2000+ words consistently)
• It's product line-up has expanded from a single-day, single story to since last year to, multiple newsletters and podcast since 2020

Problem Sphere

Discovering Problem:

• Pemraj does not share/gift the articles with his friends, as much as he'd like to
  • When he wants to share/gift the articles to his friends, his friends complained of the articles being too long.
  • At times someone asked him if he could say which specific section he could read, so it'd be a quick read. Pemraj found that hard to find and suggest the friend

Defining problem:

• Articles are perceived long → a pre-conceived difficulty to consume
  • Cutting down on content runs counter to the Ken's USP of lush, info-rich articles. So how to remove the perception of long articles?

Solution Sphere

Exploring Solutions:

1. A small, concise article brief 200 word summary (already incorporated by the team)

This provides a gist of the entire article, within 200 words right at the start of the article * the good: easy to consume, extremely timesaving the bad: lose out heavily on details

2. Navigator This provides an overall topics-set even before the article is read

the good: - there are sections than an entire document to be read - navigation through sections is instantaneous - one gets to the article, and get access to read the most interesting aspects first

**the bad:**

- readers now have specific knowledge. It may also mean they have "half knowledge", and could mis-interpret few aspects if do not read the entire article

3. Audio Stories

   • 200 word summary but audio This is just the audio version of the 200 word summary of articles.

     the good:

     • reading is time, and focus intensive. Audio consumption is easier, and quicker
     • the ken has a daily audio content as well. Provides a diversity and inclusive perspective into users minds

     the bad:

     • users lose out on specific details
     • making audio content daily might not be as easy
     • audio content could be a rival to the already existing platforms like finshots
4. Visual Stories

   • Short infographics A visual story, in format of stories (linked with data visualizations)

     • 200 word summary is not more immersive.
     • along with text, data visualisations could be added or put links for

     the bad:

     • the articles might not be read since people would hover over just visual stories
     • building could be a development, time-consuming affair
