Hullo Hullos People! Today is Dec 30th, and this was supposed to be the last post of this writing sprint. Initially I intended for that day to be Dec 31st, but somehow I always mess up with that 1 day logic. I do not know why! That’s an interesting segway to the 1st short story I wanted to share today. So lets go! (also we will therefore write for one more day, tomorrows is going to be the last one!)

Good at running. But at Math…

If you have followed any of the articles earlier on, you would realise writer’s love for running. This year I have run 500+ Kms, with some really good Personal records(PR). But it is not a story is not about flexing that. That is in bhagna chahta hu naina article (mast likha hai ye wala waise) This story is of 21st December, 2025, Tata Steel Kolkata 25K Run.

I had trained hard, had kept diet and sleep in check all for this half-marathon. My best PR for 21K(half-marathon) had been 2:10 Hrs and I was super pumped to break it to a sub-2(lesser than 2hrs)

The run began at 5:53 AM. I did a fabulous quick mental math, decided on a pace. I take a short break after every 5K and noted my pace at every break. At 1st 5K I was doing amazing. At 10k was fine too. Really improved on 15K. And now I am cruising at 19K. I am sweating, cursing marathon management under my breath, but enjoying the flow state too. I am so so happy that I am going to break my PR and get a sub 2 half marathon….. only to realise…. I fucked up. Badly.

At 19K I realised, that the pace that I had chosen would definitely get me sub-2… but for 20K. Not 21K. I had calculated pace for every 5K thinking if this is maintained, sub 2 is guaranteed! I adjusted to this reality, and also knew I was anyways breaking my PR (broke by 5 min) But I ofcourse cursed a little, not so under the breath this time, to my legendary math skills and ofcourse for the guy who kept a half-marathon at a random odd number -_-
