Heyos! Been mulling over these 3 ideas today,

  1. “How will you beat someone who is already having fun?” Post the Kolkata Marathon, we did the usual runner things. Hugged strangers. Compared timings. Pretended we didn’t care about timings. Then cared anyway. Partied hard. While we did, an uncle casually flexed his 15 full marathons; and on enquiring what was his timing - he equally casually flexed “Why bother?”

It did not matter to him even a bit. He was here for fun. He was not even in a race. And how do you even beat someone who is having fun and not even in the race huh? You don’t. You can’t.

  1. Sometimes it only has to make sense “for” you You will listen to 100 folks and their 200 sophisticated opinions. And you being a patient nice good “listener” will listen and entertain their thoughts - but brother mine, neither they have lived the exact same life of yours, nor do they have as much skin in the game as you do. So, you do you mate. Sometimes it “only” has to make sense for you.

You may win. You may get slapped by reality. But at least you get to say, “I chose this.”

You own the rewards / lashes - but hey you get to say you chose it. More on this on “For you”

  2. Bet : Being “Human” was always valued under the hood. It will be valued even more in future. I got talking with a fellow runner few days back. Aged a little older than me and an amazing, seasoned runner who had completed 6+ marathons. He is in a non-tech role and we got talking about how AI is shaping our humanity’s reality (He was more worried if AI will take his job :P). We also talked on irrespective of how will it positively / negatively impact, being “human” will be valued even more. Eg. Ofcourse anybody can now have the fanciest digital art in no time. But imagine someone sitting across from you and saying, “Draw me like one of your French girls,” and actually pulling it off. By hand. In front of you.

That would still feel special. Maybe even more so.

Because effort. Presence. Intent. Humanity. Those things are inherently human. And that’s exactly why they’re valuable.
